All of our children on the primary side have been busy planting, our greenhouse is full of herbs and vegetables!

We chose herbs and vegetables because it is just enough of a challenge to make it rewarding and fun. Once our plants start to harvest, we will be able to taste and use our herbs for a variety of culinary purposes.

The greenhouse has peaked our children’s curiosity and they have been coming up with some very interesting questions!

One of our favorite questions so far is…

Why isn’t the greenhouse green?

Another Question…What is the greenhouse made of?

The greenhouse is made of a special clear material called polycarbonate. These are glass like panels and unbreakable, ask the children more about the greenhouse and what it’s made of. You will be surprised on how much they know!

Here are two of our students explaining what polycarbonate panels are and how they work!

September

Going green in 2014!

Out with the old and in with the new, September will bring a new face to our outdoor classroom!

Although our outdoor classroom has seen several changes; there is still one very special surprise ahead… Our new Green House!

This will harbor our plants and vegetables all year around.

 P1000254

The outdoor classroom is a concept that gives the children an opportunity to explore and experience what nature has provided for them. The self directed activities and projects are designed to allow the freedom to explore, as well as identify various species of birds and insects. In turn this will allow the children to proceed at their own pace with little distractions in a peaceful and tranquil environment. This program will produce independent thinkers and artistically talented children who will become well rounded adults in the future!

Just look at the excitement on our children’s faces, as they enjoy our outdoor classroom!!

June’s Final Tune

2014 05-28 055June is here and the end of the year is near! Have no regrets, we have accomplished so much in our outdoor world!

2014 05-28 061

In years to come we will gather around to look at the pictures we have taken. We will see how quickly the children have grown, just like the garden!

Always remember our journey of learning and our achievements! Remember to never leave any stone unturned! Take what you have learned and tuck it in your pocket. When life asks you a question about nature, your answer will be close by!

2014 05-28 0662014 05-28 063

Friendships we have made are priceless. We wish all of our FMS families a great summer with friends and family. Make wonderful memories! Soon we will create a new path and walk it together in our outdoor world.

Magical May

apr25 109apr25 129apr25 132

What brings magic to May? Can you guess? Is it the rustling of the wind in the fullness of trees? May brings many wonders, which you can actually hear if you take the time to listen. May’s magic is not here to stay, so enjoy it and don’t let it pass, because 31 days can go rather FAST!!!

The outdoor world is coming alive. Just look at the excitement in the children’s eyes. Our backyard detectives are hot on the case, leaving no stone unturned as they solve each case!

What are ladybugs good for? Just ask our children, they have the answers! Ladybugs are our first defense in the garden against various plant-eating pests such as aphids, mealybugs, spider mites, thrips, and other soft-bodied insects. The children have released over 2,000 ladybugs into our outdoor world!

The ladybug life cycle is as follows: egg, larva, pupa, adult. Observation, documentation, and lots of artwork will help our young detectives remember this learning experience.

We are waiting for the tomatoes to ripen, along with the strawberries, but our apricot tree is producing while we speak. The children have been trying the sweet fruit and liking what they taste! Mint leaves are now in abundance–please feel free to help yourself and try them in tea, water, and cooking. Enjoy!

Camp spaces are filling up, so please don’t be last; the activities this summer should be a BLAST!

Remember, learning is endless!

Love,
Ms. Val, Ms. Marian & Ms. Kim
